SWG Reads the News lunches
November 21, 2014
We all read the news in different forms: as ticker tape under the tv broadcaster, in newspapers, on Facebook, twitter or as blog posts. But we often read it alone, even if with running commentary talking back to the news as we do so. Members of SWG invite you to join a more collective setting in Duckett Dining Hall over a Friday lunch to read the news: that is, decipher it, ask questions, give reactions, add new frames, in a sense, re-write the news. For those not on the meal plan, primarily staff and faculty, your lunch is on us.

Lunch conversation with Barbara Finamore, senior attorney and Asia director
November 24, 2014
at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). China is now the largest greenhouse gas emitter on the planet. Do other members of the global community have a voice in changing this behavior? What can the global community do practically speaking? Governments can act: the United States government recently pledged with China to limit greenhouse gases 26 to 28% over the next 10 years compared to 2005 levels. But non-profit organizations can also act to change behavior. Within the NRDC, Ms. Finamore promotes policy development in China that focuses on climate change reduction and clean energy solutions and currently leads NRDC’s green ports project which aims to reduce air pollution in southern China caused by marine port-related activities. Join us in an informal setting for a conversation about her work with the NRDC.
