Chamber Music Concert

Featuring guest violinist Elizabeth Chang, mezzo-soprano Katherine Saik DeLugan, pianists Yang Liu, Albert Cano Smit, and Jiayan Sun, the program will present Busoni’s magnificent second Violin Sonata, Mozart transcriptions for two pianos, songs inspired by Byron’s Hebrew Melodies, and his magnum opus Fantasia Contrappuntistica, based on Bach’s The Art of Fugue. At 2:00 PM  there is a Panel Discussion: Busoni the Pianist with some of the artists.

Arguably the greatest pianist of his time, the legacy of Ferruccio Busoni (1866–1924) is perpetuated through popular piano transcriptions and his futuristic musical thinking. Curated by pianist and Associate Chair for Performance Activities Jiayan Sun and featuring concerts, lectures, and panels, the two-day festival explores Busoni’s musical roots and the formation of his musical identity in the  fin de siècle.
