Cool Tools for Back to School
Smithies Create
Published September 16, 2021
This fall, back to school was supposed to be synonymous with back to normal. But the delta variant had other plans.
Nancy Martira ’03, the owner of Aunt Goodie, an online gift shop for kids, says yoga cards and a galaxy jar can help children cope with the unique stresses of this school year.
“We know that big transitions come with big feelings,” says Martira, a real-life aunt with 17 nieces and nephews. The animal-themed yoga deck ($27) from Dutch brand IMYOGI is “great for kids who need a little help focusing in or calming down,” she says. Aunt Goodie’s own glitter-filled galaxy jar kit ($18), meanwhile, is “a great visual aid to help self-regulate when a feelings storm is brewing.” Just shake the jar and take deep breaths as you watch the glitter swirl and settle.
