Neuroscience Professor Dies
Friends
and members of the Smith community gathered at Helen Hills
Hills Chapel on Monday, Feb. 12, to remember Stefan Bodnarenko,
associate professor of psychology, who taught in the neuroscience
program. Bodnarenko died early on Feb. 12 after suffering
a severe heart attack. Smith lowered the flag in front of
College Hall to half-staff in his memory.
Bodnarenko had joined the Smith
faculty in 1994. His research involved the complexity and
precision of the connections that are made among the brain’s
billions of neurons. A biophysicist/neuroscientist, who completed
his doctoral studies at the City University of New York
in 1989, Bodnarenko
taught courses in neuro-anatomy and biopsychology at Smith.
Calling hours for Bodnarenko will be held on Friday, Feb.
16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Union Funeral
Home in Union, New Jersey. A funeral will be held for Bodnarenko
on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Vladimir Ukrainian
Catholic Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
Plans are under way to schedule
a memorial service at Smith for Bodnarenko in the near future. |
