Lunchtime
in the Garden
The Staff Council Activities Committee invites the Smith
community to take a stroll through the lavish Capen House
Garden on Monday, June 11, from noon to 1 p.m. Bring lunch
and enjoy the celebrated gardens and a talk by Michael Marcotrigiano,
director of the Botanic Garden (event will be cancelled in
case of rain).
Capen Garden, located on the northeast edge of campus, features
a rustic rose arbor, perennial beds, a knot garden, and a
fountain. A formal gazebo, honoring Jill Ker Conway, hosts
a spectacular display of tulips and summer annuals. The garden
is an important campus resource for teaching horticulture.
Four years ago, the Staff Council Activities Committee coordinated
a successful summer series of garden tours. The committee
decided to revisit the idea this year with a walk and talk
in Capen Garden. If the event goes well, say committee members,
there will be more.
