Murder Expert to Lecture at Smith
James Alan Fox, whom USA
Today describes as “arguably
the nation’s foremost criminologist,” will visit
Smith on Thursday, April 26, to give a lecture titled “Killing
for Pleasure: Serial Killers Among Us.”
The lecture will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Weinstein Auditorium,
Wright Hall, and is open to all in the Five College community.
Fox, the Lipman Family Professor and former dean of the
College of Criminal Justice at Northeastern University, has
written 16 books and published dozens of articles and columns
on multiple murder, juvenile crime, school and workplace
violence, and capital punishment. He appears regularly on The
Today Show, Meet the Press, Dateline, 20/20 and Oprah. Fox
has testified before the U.S. Congress on 15 occasions, and
has consulted with former U.S. President Bill Clinton, Sen.
Hillary Clinton, and former Attorney General Janet Reno,
among others.
Fox’s lecture is
sponsored by the Smith chapter of Psi Chi, the National
Honor Society in Psychology, and the Smith psychology department.
