Momentary Power Interruptions Friday, Aug. 22, 5-6 a.m.
As part of a safety inspection
of Smith’s new campus power system, the campus will
experience a few momentary power interruptions between 5
and 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22. During that hour, there will
likely be four brief outages, each lasting about 4 seconds.
Related testing of Smith’s cogeneration system--commonly
called “CoGen"--may also result in the periodic
venting of steam above the roof of Facilities Management
on West Street. Once the environmentally and economically
efficient system is fully engaged, it will produce both electricity
and heat for the campus.
