Can You Learn This Month?

The temperature hovers
somewhere between frigid and raw. The campus is regaining
momentum after the holiday break. It must be January. At
Smith, that means another Interterm Program, a month-long
series of non-credit courses taught by Smith community
members—students, staff, faculty,
alumnae and associates.
The Interterm Program,
now in its tenth year, offers courses on a range of topics
and techniques. Kelly Swan ’09
will teach how to “Design Your Own Website” beginning
Jan. 14. Local writer Linda McCullough Moore will analyze “Short
Fiction, the Inside Story: Twelve Secrets No Writer Tells” beginning
Jan. 22.
, which began Monday, January 7, and runs
through Friday, Jan. 25, offers nearly three dozen weeklong
courses and several workshops that might entice the curiosity
of those still on campus.
As part of the Interterm Program, the Career Development
Office offers several job-search workshops, and the Jacobson
Center for Writing, Teaching and Learning hosts a series
of its own workshops.
And from January 9 through 25, the Interterm Film Series
offers a lineup of thought-provoking screenings, each preceded
by a discussion led by a Smith faculty member or administrator.
Titles this year include Alien, Them!, Gattaca, Midnight, and Local
Hero.
