Admission
Offers Early Glimpse of College Life
More than 160 visitors—high
school sophomores and juniors and their families—will converge
on the Smith campus on Friday, March 14, to get a taste of
college life and learn about their impending admission process.
Students and their families
will travel from as far away as Texas, Washington and California
to participate in Smith’s
first Spring Preview, a half-day event designed to provide
them with an introduction to the college admission process
and the distinctive opportunities at Smith.
Spring Preview is similar to the annual Fall Preview and
to Simply Smith later in the spring, said Maureen Pine, assistant
director of admission, who is coordinating the event. The
Office of Admission added the Spring Preview to accommodate
high school students during their spring break, she said,
and before their senior year when they may have finalized
their college lists.
“We’re hoping to generate some interest in Smith
College for these students,” she said. “We wanted
to invite the younger high school students to stimulate their
interest.”
Participants will take part in workshops throughout the
morning on the admission application process, financing,
preparing for college interviews, collegiate academic atmosphere,
studying abroad, and writing college admission essays, said
Pine. The students will take a tour of the campus following
lunch in the Campus Center.
