Class Not to be Missed
Human Resources, Staff Council
and Institutional Diversity have come together to present
two thought-provoking workshops in which staff and faculty
will have theopportunity to break the silence surrounding
issues of class and classism at Smith College.
The purpose of these workshops is to better understand classism
in our personal lives and to surface how class operates in
the workplace. We will explore how position and rank at Smith,
as well as our individual class backgrounds, play out and
influence our work relationships. Naming and identifying
class dynamics can assist both the college and individuals
to better achieve their missions and their potential, which
is the overarching goal for all employees of the college.
Workshops will be facilitated by Class Action, a nonprofit
group that was recently recognized by the American Psychological
Association for its groundbreaking work on classism.
