For many years, part of the
rite, for all students coming to campus at the beginning
of the academic year, had been an annual stop at the Indoor
Track and Tennis (ITT) facility for Central Check-In. The
yearly event allowed students to complete all their enrollment
business in one, convenient stop.
This year, Central Check-In
(CCI) is only mandated for first-year students.
The change was instituted because
from year to year, the large majority of returning students
at CCI typically only received their room keys and a catalogue.
They will now pick up their room keys during hours separate
from CCI; catalogues will be available when they pick up
their keys.
For new students, however, CCI
remains the one-stop enrollment venue it has always been.
For two days next week—Monday, Aug. 30, 1-4 p.m., and
Tuesday, Aug. 31, 9 a.m.-noon—students will file through
CCI as they arrive on campus.
In addition to accommodating
the requirements of enrollment, CCI offers an array of information
tables representing services and vendors on and off campus
(see accompanying list).
On both CCI days, all students,
faculty and staff members are invited to stop by to purchase
low-wattage light bulbs and lighting fixtures from TechniArt,
a company that specializes in energy-efficient lighting fixtures.
Switch out your incandescent bulbs for low-wattage models
(cash or checks only for purchases).
