Invites You to Feed Your Palette and Palate
Four
Smith seniors have teamed up to create an exhibition, “Feed
Your Palette,” of
art works—paintings and works on paper—focusing on food and other subjects, on
display in Jannotta Gallery, Hillyer Hall, this week, through April 19.
A reception,
on Friday, April 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the gallery, will
feature a menu of cuisine designed to contribute to the sensation
of interacting with the artworks in the exhibition.
“I work with watercolor, acrylic inks, oil and sometimes graphite to observe
and reflect on the beauty of the fruits of nature,” said contributing artist
Melissa Schermerhorn. “I am a mother and painting lets me explore the glory of
providing a feast for the eyes.”
Schermerhorn’s paintings of translucent fruits will be presented with drawings
by Talia Levy of fauna interacting with their environment; paintings and charcoals
by Gina Marie DeLuca of imaginary characters; and works by Katherine Bessey that
examine light and its influence.
The artists plan to invite participation
with the art by serving sparkling punch; cold beet and apple
salad with blue tortilla chips; hummus with curry spice and
dried currants; dates stuffed with goat cheese and walnuts;
chocolate spice cupcakes; and toasted Italian bread with
red pepper tapenade baked with mozzarella.
