Students at the Williams-Mystic Center
Since it opened nearly 30 years
ago, the Williams-Mystic Maritime Studies Center in Mystic,
Ct., has consistently hosted Smith students in its 17-week
program, which teaches broadly about the world's oceans and
coasts.
This summer, four Smith alumnae,
who had participated in the educational program at the center
as students, served on the Williams-Mystic center staff.
As researchers of the Mystic River estuary, Rachel Rock-Blake
’09 and Miranda Mickiewicz ’10 assisted in the discovery
of an invasive Asian shrimp in the region, which may have
broad ramifications for other species there.
