The Smith College Board of Trustees has appointed a 12-member search committee to identify and recommend a candidate to succeed President Carol T. Christ upon the completion of her term in June 2013.
The committee is chaired by Smith alumna and trustee Louise Parent, Class of 1972. Its members are Agnes Bundy Scanlan, Class of 1979, trustee; Elizabeth Mugar Eveillard, Class of 1969, trustee; Laurie Fenlason, vice president for public affairs; Lynn Fox, Class of 1977, trustee and president of the Alumnae Association of Smith College; Andrew Guswa, associate professor of engineering; Alexandra Keller, associate professor of film studies; Lois Perelson-Gross, Class of 1983, trustee; James Shulman, trustee; Sharmila (Mona) Sinha, Class of 1988, trustee; Nancy Whittier, professor of sociology; and a student member to be identified shortly through a nomination and self-nomination process.
“Smith College has an extraordinary tradition of effective and inspirational leadership,” noted Parent. “The person we choose will possess a vision for Smith that will both sustain the college as a premier institution of higher education and expand its global impact.”
Over the coming weeks and months, Parent said, the committee will engage the broader Smith community in discussions about leadership for the college’s future and will communicate regularly about developments in the search process. In the meantime, the committee invites candidate nominations via e-mail at presidentialsearch@smith.edu.
