Engineering Women Who Take the Driver's Seat |
Smith Keeps Company with Fast Company An experienced participant in high school college fairs, Smith struck out in another direction on October 5 and 6 when it set up shop at the Fast Company Talent Lab at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. Invited to participate by Fast Company, the hip magazine of the new economy, Smith more than held its own at the trade show, which was billed as "not a job fair, not a human resources seminar, but a radical reinvention of both." The college's new engineering program, Praxis internships, $2.5 million grant from the Ford Motor Company and pioneering partnership with Women in Technology International had attracted Fast Company's attention and earned Smith an invitation to the Talent Lab. The event provided high visibility for the college among those attending, whom the promotional material called "change agentsand the technology-savvy drivers of the future of business." Visitors to the college booth included a number of Smith alumnae who were proud and interested to see the college represented in this new setting. |
