Engineering Women Who Take the Driver's Seat |
Smith Will Host Engineering Summit To celebrate the launch of its Picker Program in Engineering and Technology, Smith College will host a national conference "Designing the Future: A Summit on Engineering Education," March 30-31. In panel presentations and individual talks, prominent members of the engineering profession, educators and corporate CEOs will discuss strategies and policies for encouraging women and other underrepresented groups to pursue careers in technology. The participants will be Domenico Grasso, Rosemary Bradford Hewlett '40 Professor of Engineering and chair of the Picker engineering program, and members of the program's faculty, as well as William Wulf, president, National Academy of Engineering; Kristina Johnson, dean of the School of Engineering, Duke University; James Wei, Smith trustee and dean of the School of Engineering, Princeton University; and Tom Engibous, CEO, Texas Instruments. Other participants will be John Slaughter, president and CEO, National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering; astronaut Bonnie Dunbar, National Aeronautics and Space Administration; Sabina Nawaz '80, director of management and leader- ship groups, Microsoft Corporation; George Peterson, executive director, Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology; Stephen Director, dean of the College of Engineering, University of Michigan, and chair, Engineering Deans Council; and Shirley Ann Jackson, president, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The conference is supported by the Ford Motor Company. |
