A Message to the Smith Community
Friday, June 28, 2013
Today—my last official day as president—I want to thank you all for everything you do to make this college so exceptional a place. Over the years, I’ve been repeatedly moved and impressed by the pride and care that you take in your work and your steadfast concern for the quality of our students’ experience. I have come to know you as a community who cares deeply both about the core values that bind us together and about one another.
Eleven years ago my husband and I left Berkeley, California, to set out on a momentous journey across the country to come to Smith. On Sunday, I begin that journey in reverse, sadly, without Paul, but I take with me many precious memories. I want to thank you for all the sympathy you’ve shown me in this difficult year. I will treasure the college, and its community, in my heart.
With warm wishes,
Carol
