The Community's Response to Hurricane Katrina
September 6, 2005
I am very concerned, as I know you are, about the people of the Gulf Coast states who are struggling in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. A disaster of this magnitude will have after-effects and consequences that we cannot fully anticipate but I wanted to let you know of some of the ways in which the Smith community is responding at this time and to invite your support.
Members of the Smith community have a long tradition of compassionate outreach in times of need. As our nation struggles to restore lives and livelihoods, the need is undeniably great; I know our individual and collective energies can be brought to bear in powerful ways in the coming weeks and months.
