Looking for an eco-friendly way to get around campus, downtown or the Five Colleges?
Smith students and employees now have discounted access to a new, regional bike sharing program. ValleyBike—a partnership launched in June among Amherst, Holyoke, Northampton, South Hadley, Springfield, the University of Massachusetts and the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission—offers 500 electric, pedal-assist bikes to 50 stations throughout the Pioneer Valley.
“We’re excited to welcome ValleyBike program to the Smith campus,” said Sam Masinter, Smith’s associate vice president for college relations. “Along with providing a new, environmentally friendly benefit to the Smith community, we hope that ValleyBike Share will play an integral role in bringing new visitors to both our campus and the city.”
Memberships—available through the ValleyBike website, ValleyBike mobile app and directly at station kiosks—offer unlimited short-term rentals for an annual fee. Walk-up rentals are also available.
Smith’s station, adjacent to John M. Greene Hall, is one of 14 in Northampton. An annual membership, regularly $80, is being offered for $56 to Smith students and employees. Access codes for memberships are available here (please note that these codes are only available to those with a Smith College login.)
