Honoring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, September 29, 2020

Dear students, staff, faculty and alums,

At my request, the flag on College Hall will be lowered to half-staff today to honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg, associate justice of the United States Supreme Court, on the week of her burial in Arlington National Cemetery. We honor Justice Ginsburg because few have done as much for women’s rights. Her values were aligned with Smith’s, which is why the college honored her in 1997 with the first Sophia Smith Award for her “lasting contribution to the education of women.”

We have created a page to collect reflections from the Smith community, and I invite you to share your own remembrance of Justice Ginsburg.
