Public policy is a vital and primary tool for improving population health, explains Professor Michener. We rely on policy to deliver benefits, alleviate burdens, and distribute resources in ways that advance health. Policy can also be a mechanism through which structural racism operates. Through a lens on Medicaid – our nation's largest health program – this talk will explore the relationships between health policy and structural racism, with particular emphasis on the consequences for U.S. democracy.
Michener's talk is part of the Kahn yearlong project Coping with Democratic Precarity and the Prospects for Democratic Renewal and continues the Kahn alignment with the college theme Year on Democracy.
All in the Smith community are welcome.
