The 25th Anniversary of the ADA

July 24, 2015

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:

This Sunday, July 26, 2015, marks the 25th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, landmark legislation prohibiting discrimination and segregation on the basis of disability. Enactment of the ADA was a civil rights milestone and a turning point in our cultural understanding of disability. We will have opportunities this fall to reflect on and celebrate the legacy of the ADA, but at this historic moment I hope you will join me in recognizing those who have worked to make Smith College more accessible and inclusive, particularly through the offices of Disability Services and Institutional Diversity and Equity. Their leadership over this quarter century has been critical in ensuring that people with disabilities are contributors to and beneficiaries of all that Smith College has to offer.

Sincerely,

Kathleen McCartney
President
