NuSYM11 International Symposium on Nuclear Symmetry Energy
Dear Colleague:
The Second International Symposium on Nuclear Symmetry Energy, NuSYM11, will be held June 17–20, 2011 at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. We have chosen this time because the Gordon Conference on Nuclear Chemistry ends the morning of June 17 and we hope that many of you will be able to extend your stay in New England.
We plan to expand the discussions starting at GRC on recent progress and new challenges specifically on the following topics:
- Advances in the area of nuclear equation of state;
- Theoretical and experimental developments pertinent to determining the equation of state of isospin asymmetric nuclear matter;
- Symmetry energy information coming from nuclear reactions, nuclear structure, masses and collective modes;
- Effects of symmetry energy in astrophysics.
The symposium will start in the afternoon on Friday, June 17 and will end at noon on Monday, June 20. It will be followed by a half-day long SAMURAI/TPC collaboration meeting open to everyone. A list of invited speakers for NuSYM11 can be found on our Web site.
If you are interested in attending NuSYM11, please register. If you want to present your work, as an oral presentation or a poster, e-mail your abstract to NuSYM11@smith.edu no later than May 15, 2011.
The conference fee is $120 which covers most of the meals and all coffee breaks. Lodging on campus in a dormitory single or double room is available at $30–35 per person per night. All payments will be accepted in form of check, money order or cash. If you prefer a hotel room, more information is available.
Please let us know about your lodging choices. Do you need a dorm room beginning Thursday, June 16?
We will organize transportation from GRC site to Smith. Its price will depend on number of people interested. We estimate the price per person to be about $25. For those who come to Boston (Logan), there are five bus connections per day (Northampton–Logan and Logan–Northampton). The price per person, one way, is $35. If there will be enough people needing transportation to Boston at approximately the same time, we will be able to arrange for a bus. The closest airport is the Bradley International Airport ( BDL) close to Harford, Conn. It is 40 miles away and there are a couple of ways to get there.
Please let us know whether you will need a ride from GRC. If you fly on June 17, let us know when do you arrive in Boston or Bradley and, if you rent a car, if you can take somebody with you.
Invitation letters may be provided upon request for the NuSYM11 participants who need a US visa.
See you at NuSYM11.
