Gail Campanella ’75

Gail Campanella is an M.B.A. (Northwestern) with a long career in launching healthcare-related ventures and programs. She co-founded a pioneering firm in health care supply chain technology that was the first value-added dealer for Apple Computer and which eventually went public. Over the past two decades at the University of Michigan Gail served as Managing Director of the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation where she managed an organization of over 650 faculty members, led the institute’s launch and growth, and was named Michigan Medicine Administrator of the Year in 2018. She previously oversaw the launch and operations of the U-M Comprehensive Depression and simultaneously served as Chief Operating Officer and Interim Executive Director for the National Network of Depression Centers, co-founding and leading this national nonprofit organization. She currently provides strategic consultation and support to new and existing U-M centers and institutes. In addition to her career in healthcare, Gail co-founded and was a co-director of the former Ann Arbor Girls School.
Gail was accepted to Smith as a “test Ada” in 1973 prior to the official launch of the Ada Comstock Scholars program and is pleased and proud to see this program flourishing today. She has maintained deep ties to Smith, seeking out and playing actives role in alumnae clubs in the cities where she has lived. She is currently on the board of the Ann Arbor Smith College Club where she previously served as President.
