Happy Mountain Day! How’s the View? September 23, 2020
Dear students, staff and faculty:
Happy Mountain Day! As you know, there will be no classes today, so that all Smith students can have the time to honor this cherished tradition. I know you will find creative ways to celebrate, even if there is no nearby mountain to climb.
Without a doubt, I am disappointed I will not be seeing you at the President’s House for cider and donuts today, but you will celebrate from your hometowns around the world, just like the alums. After all, wherever there’s a Smithie, there’s a Mountain Day!
This morning on Twitter, I shared a photo of the magical view of Paradise Pond I get to enjoy nearly every day from the President’s House. I would like to invite you to share the view from your own window. Together let’s celebrate from afar one of Smith’s greatest traditions by seeing how many different Mountain Day views we can get today!
Here’s how you can participate: take a photo of the view from your window, front porch, backyard or some other socially distanced location and send it to Smith via this form. To help get you in the spirit of the day, we’re also providing some Mountain Day–themed social media frames and backgrounds for Zoom, in case you want to digitally transport yourself back to the Pioneer Valley. We’ll collect the images that come in and post an album to Facebook and Instagram.
Wherever you are—whatever your view—I hope this day, this tradition, reminds you of the deep bonds that connect you to this remarkable college and to other Smithies around the world.
Enjoy this special day!
Sincerely,
Kathleen McCartney
President, Smith College
