Program sessions opened with a welcome from Marilyn Schuster, provost and dean of the faculty, Smith College; Farah Pandith (Smith ’90), special representative to Muslim communities, U.S. Department of State; and Robert Dorit, project organizer and professor of biological sciences, Smith College. The opening address was delivered by Nora Berra, former French Minister of Health and a member of the European Parliament.

Thursday’s program at Reid Hall, longtime home of Smith’s study abroad program in Paris, included a panel discussion on public health in subsaharan Africa; a case study, “Illness Without Borders”; and a keynote address delivered by Caroline De Haas, policy adviser at the French Ministry of Women’s Affairs.

Friday sessions at the U.S. Embassy’s Tallyrand Building included “Using Old and New Media: Telling Your Story,” with Denise Silber (Smith ’74), president of Basil Strategies, and Zied Mhirsi, media entrepreneur and global health professional; and a panel discussion, “Connecting Ideas to Resources,” with Sandra Laney (Smith ’96), Gates Foundation; Erin Gainer, chief executive officer, Pharma HRA; Susan Tolson (Smith ’84), director, AMI-American Media Inc.; and Benoît Miribel, director general of Fondation Mérieux.
