CONNECT TO EDUROAM
Eduroam (education roaming) is a secure wireless network and roaming-access service developed for the international research and education community. Eduroam is available to Smith students, faculty, and staff and can be accessed at Smith, the other Five Colleges, and educational institutions worldwide.
Important Information:
- Changes as of June 2020 - The Smith Wi-Fi network was upgraded on June 18, 2020. As a result, existing eduroam users will need to update their eduroam network settings on their devices. For step-by-step instructions, visit Update Your Eduroam Settings
- To use eduroam the first time, you will need to configure your device’s network settings while on the Smith campus. To configure and connect your device, follow the Set up and Connect Your Device instructions below.
- If you plan to travel to other institutions, be sure to connect your laptop or device to eduroam while on the Smith campus at least once before you travel. Set up and Connect Your Device
The first time you attempt to connect to eduroam from your device, you will be prompted for information that will be used to set up your Wi-Fi network settings. Complete the following one-time process for each device you want to connect.
Windows and macOS Devices
- Select eduroam from the Wireless Network list on your device.
- Enter your Smith email address (include the @smith.edu) and your Smith email password in the appropiate fields.
- Click OK or Join. Accept the eduroam certificate and authenticate your device, if prompted.
There are many different versions of iOS and Android devices in use. These instructions are intended to provide a general guide to configure your Wi-Fi settings.
iOS
- Tap the Settings Icon
- Select Wi-Fi in the left hand column
- Select eduroam from the network list
- Enter your Smith email address (include the @smith.edu)
- Enter your Smith email password
- Select Join
- If you see the Certificate window "clearpass.smith.edu", click Trust.
Android
- Tap Settings Icon, then tap Network & Internet, then Wi-Fi.
- Select eduroam from the network list
- Scroll to the top of this menu
- Select PEAP from the EAP Method dropdown.
- Select Phase 2 authentication, and then select MSCHAPV2
- Select CA Certificate, then select Do not validate
- In the Identity field, enter your Smith email address (include the @smith.edu)
- Under Anonymous identity leave blank
- Enter your Smith email password in the password field.
- Select Connect
Trouble connecting?
Reminder to existing eduroam users: after June 18, 2020, remember to accept the prompts to update your Wi-Fi network settings and to trust the new clearpass certificate. For details, see Update Your Eduroam Settings.
If your device is unable to connect, you may need to clear out the current eduroam network settings and make a new connection at Smith. For instructions, see Remove or Forget an Old Eduroam Connection. As an alternative, the Connect2Smith Wi-Fi network is available while on the Smith campus.
Additionally, make sure to check that your device or the operating system (OS) on it are current. A device with older hardware or software may not be able to connect to Eduroam.
