USING WIRELESS DEVICES ON THE SMITH NETWORK

PLEASE REMEMBER! You are responsible for all network activity that comes from any device you connect to the Smith network. All devices must comply with Smith's policy on the Acceptable Use of Computer Resources.  Misuse can result in disciplinary action and possible loss of network access privileges.

Q. I have a wireless printer. Can I use it to print wireless on the Smith network?
A. Yes, ITS strongly recommends a USB connection instead of wireless printing. Most wireless printers can be connected to Smith's RegisteredDevices wireless network. For instructions, click here.

Note that your laptop or phone MUST be on the Eduroam network (NOT the Connect2Smith network) to print to your wireless printer. The Smith system uses your Eduroam identity to locate your device on the RegisteredDevices network.

Q. I want to use my Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, etc. product on campus. Is this possible?

A. Yes, you can connect your Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, or similar device to Smith's RegisteredDevices network. Our preferred network is Eduroam, but most devices that are not Eduraom-capable can still connect to RegisteredDevices. For instructions, click here.

Please Note:  Amazon Echo, Google Home, and Chromecast devices need to be set up at home first so you can obtain the MAC address of the device.  Search Google on how to find the MAC address for your particular device.

If you would like to use AirPlay or a similar home WiFi-based service to connect to this device from your laptop or smartphone, your laptop/smartphone MUST be on the Eduroam network (NOT the Connect2Smith network). The Smith system uses your Eduroam identity to locate your device on the RegisteredDevices network.

Q. Can I use my own wireless router at Smith?
A. No. Setting up a personal wireless network at Smith is not allowed and is a violation of Smith's network policy.
Q. Can I use my WiFi-enabled smartphone or tablet at Smith?

A. Absolutely. Click here for instructions on connecting your Apple/Android device to one of Smith's wireless networks.

Q. I have an Xbox/Playstation I want to use on the network. Will I be able to?

A. You can connect most gaming consoles to Smith's RegisteredDevices network. For instructions, click here.
