More Than Hitting the Books

You’ll choose a college for its academic excellence, but at times you’ll just want to have fun.

You’ll find plenty to do at Smith. You can lead or take part in any of about 120 student-run organizations, programs and informal groups, all of which offer you lively ways to share your interests and passions and develop new friendships.

Want to play basketball, field hockey or Ultimate Frisbee? Smith has 11 intercollegiate athletic teams, plus a wide variety of club sports. Outstanding facilities for recreation and competition include a state-of-the-art fitness center and climbing wall, a six-lane pool, two gymnasiums and 25 acres of some of the finest grass fields in North America.

There are perfects spots to socialize, eat, relax and study at Smith’s Campus Center—a vibrant hub for the intellectual life of the college with spaces for formal and informal meetings, recreation and dining.

There will be concerts, dances, films and parties right on campus. Or attend events on the four other campuses in the Five College area using the fare-free bus system. There are 30,000 other college students, men and women, for you to meet—all within 12 miles of Smith.

The spirited downtown of Northampton is a short walk from the Smith campus. This vibrant city offers you music venues, shops, renowned restaurants and funky eateries, and favorite places to go for late-night pizza and ice cream.

At Smith, you’ll live in a house on campus that will be your social and residential home base; there are no dormitories or sororities here. Your living options are varied. Smith’s houses each have a distinct character and range in size and architectural style from contemporary to Georgian.
