Now that you have completed your assessment, the next step is to prepare a project plan. The following is a recommended project plan for Year 2000 Coordinators to follow. Step 3 - Create a Project Plan for Corrective Action
1. Analyze the results of the inventory to determine and prioritize the areas that are critical to departmental functions and must be addressed.
2. Determine appropriate solutions for your computer, applications, or processor problem, according to the following four options:
3. Determine whether problem must be:
- Return to ITS - No longer needed or used; not critical
- Contact ITS for a:
- Fix - Can be revised to handle 21st century dates
- Replace - Can be replaced (if the equipment or process cannot be fixed or the fix would be very costly) with a year 2000 compliant replacement.
- Defer - Need to be fixed or replaced, but not immediately
- coordinated with ITS or any other College department, or
- fixed by a vendor or external partner.
4. Determine resource needs
5. Assign or request resources.
6. Work with ITS or Vendors to set target dates and milestones for correction and testing
7. Determine criteria for assessing success of year 2000 compliance changes.
8. Determine testing plans, both local testing and in cooperation with other College departments and external vendors or partners where necessary.
9. Follow the time line recommended in the front of this packet. All major corrective action required should be completed by the end of 1999.
