Preliminary review of Y2k work in relevant
science departments/divisions in the Five Colleges turns up little new
information or strategies (December 1998).

Memorandum to science faculty and staff describing
Year 2000 risks, the role of the Y2k Committee, an overview of the step-by-step
process for addressing Y2k compliance issues, and providing a list of fixed
assets to each "responsible person" (3 February 1999).

Hard copies of the Y2k Tool Kit made available
to science faculty and staff (e-mail announcement, 15 February 1999).

Update memorandum provides information regarding
steps taken by Science Center staff to address general Y2k compliance issues,
announces the availability of tools on the internet, and encourages continued
persistence in addressing Y2k compliance issues (May 1999).

Identified Y2K problems in stockroom inventory
and billing software; contracted for replacement software.

Identified Y2K problems in custom chemical
storage inventory software; software being replaced.

In process of upgrading all file server software
for Y2K compliancy (Novell NetWare, Microsoft Windows NT, and Unix).
-
Ongoing contingency planning for possible
loss of power re: -70 degree C freezers and animal quarters issues.

Ongoing discussions with faculty on Y2K dependencies
in research equipment, especially computer-controlled apparatus.
